7 Steps To Answered Prayers

By Kenneth E. Hagin

Ephesians 6:18-20
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

The Scriptures say All Prayers – meaning that there are different kinds of prayers .

John 15:7
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

If my words – (plural) abide in you, Ask. God has already given us the avenue through which our prayers are answered - abiding in the word; So the issue is not on God’s part, but on the praying individual.

SEVEN STEPS TO ANSWERED PRAYERS

1. Decide what you want from God
  • Be specific – Get the scriptures that promise you the thing you are praying for. Now you will have the foundation for faith. Faith begins when the will of God is known. You cannot believe beyond your scriptural knowledge.

So many people are praying in the dark. It is the Word that gives light :

Psalms 119:105

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
  • Get these promises firmly fixed in your heart.
The scriptures will never profit when they are in your head. This will only come through meditation until it becomes part of you

Joshua 1:8-9
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

It will only work when it’s in the heart.
  • Be ready to use them (promises) against the devil and demons.
The devil will do everything to cause you to doubt. It is only the word that defeats doubt and deception from the devil.

2. Ask God the things you want and believe you have received them

Mark 11:24
Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

  • Them means the desires of your heart. What you desire is what is your need.
  • When you pray – this means that prayer is not an option but a must!
  • Whatever you desire – this means that you are not limited to what you can desire as long it is within the provision of Heaven.
  • Believe that you receive them – In prayer, we don’t believe that we will receive - We already have received immediately we pray
  • Having what you have prayed for - this becomes a product of believing by faith that you have received.
So many people are after having, but it is only born from believing.

3. When you pray, you need to act and behave as one who has what they have prayed for.

Believe that you have received them and you will have them!

When are you going to have them? Your prayers – after you have believed that you have received them.

When do you believe that you have them? Before you receive them.

2 Corinthians 5:7
For we walk by faith, not by sight.

We fail because we continue to walk by natural faith instead of Bible Faith. Natural faith is believing what you see!  It’s okay to walk with natural faith or human faith until it contradicts with what the Bible says. When the Bible tells you to do something, believe it. God will never tell you to do what he knows you cannot.

Example: Romans 4:17-21
(as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.” And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

Abraham believed according to that which was written- meaning according to that which was spoken.

John 20:29
Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.

Thomas said he cannot believe what he cannot see. 8 days later, Jesus appeared. Thomas’ belief was based on touch and feel. People try to get Abraham’s blessing with Thomas’ kind of faith.

Believe God and not Satan – As you have established what you have desired, confirmed it through the Word and asked. Believe the truth – God’s Word.

4. Let every thought and desire affirm that you have what you asked.

Never permit any mental picture of failure to be in your mind. Never doubt for any minute that you have the answer. If doubt persists, rebuke or resist it and set your mind on the answer. Constantly affirm that the promises of God are true and that your prayer has been answered. Never think defeat but always declare victory

What you think is very important as it determines what you believe.

Philippians 4:6-8
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Eliminate every thought, suggestion and feeling that do not agree with your answer.

1 Peter 5:6-8
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because[a] your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

James 4:7
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Resist doubt and it will flee from you! Resist fear and it will flee from you! Acting on God’s word is working it - this only happens through believing!

James 1:21-25
Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

Psalms 119:89
Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven.

Realize that the devil can give people suggestions, thoughts, visions and dreams. No dream or vision should contradict the word of God. Do not be ignorant of the devil. He uses images to rob you your prophetic destiny.

Note: Prayer is not based on feelings but on the word!

It does not matter what you dream, the Word remains supreme! Paul said we are not ignorant of the schemes of the devil – he will try to use dreams and visions to talk you out of your prayers!

5. Meditate constantly on promises (scriptures), that you base may your answer to your prayers

See yourself as already received what you have prayed. Make plans as if you already have received what you are believing God for.

Proverbs 4:20-22
My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.

  • To attend to the word means that you have to put the word FIRST.
  • Incline your ear – listen to what God has said in every place in the word.
  • Let them not depart - meditate upon the word every day.
  • God’s word is life to those who find them. The Word is health.
  • If you find the scripture that promises your answer – do not let it depart from your eyes. If you don’t see yourself receiving – you have allowed the word to depart from you. God will make His word work – only if you keep it before your eyes.
  • Find out how God works and work with Him. If you don’t know how God works – you will continue without an answer.

It is not believing in prayers will get you an answer – Even heathens believe in prayers - Faith should be in God who answers prayers. Faith is in what God has said in His word.

See it done! See yourself with your answer. See yourself with the money you prayed for, all your bills paid, et cetera!

Continue to praise and thank God

6. Maintain that all things are possible with the believer

Mark 9:23
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

Constantly, maintain the attitude that all things are possible to those believe .

7. Make every statement relative to what you believe and not out of unbelief

You can think faith words just as you can think negative words. You can speak positive words just as you can speak negative words. It is thinking faith words and speaking faith words that leads someone out of defeat and into victory.

If you pray anything and ask it again, you will be in unbelief. We can pray for miracle, but unbelief can nullify the miracle!

Stand your ground, declare what you believe and continue in thanksgiving.
