Trusting in the Lord
Jesus Christ will never fail us. Everything else can
disappoint us; holding onto Jesus Christ, our mighty fortress, will keep us
safe and secure. As believers, we shall be able to sing and celebrate on a daily
basis, when we put our trust in Him, who is our mighty fortress. He shall enable us to
sing that our hope is built on nothing
less, than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. On Christ the solid Rock I
stand, all other ground is sinking
sand; all other ground is sinking
sand.
In order to hold onto the Fortress, we need to believe. We
cannot hold onto that which we do not believe in.
Proverbs 3:5-8
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on
your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct
your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from
evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.
Trusting in the Lord is having an assurance, confidence,
faith and belief in Him. It is life beyond what the physical eyes can see and
comprehend. It is the Lord’s business to safeguard us whenever we release ourselves
and let go of our abilities, knowledge and understanding. When we believe, His
Holy Spirit works and fulfills His will upon us.
We ought to rely on God trustfully at all times. When
there’s no meal, it is none of our business if we have trusted in the Lord for
provision. When we lean upon God and not man, He comes to our rescue and enables
us to live debt free lives. Christians must never put their trust on academic
credentials, knowledge and understanding whose help is limited especially
during times of challenges. We need to ask ourselves; upon whom or what have
we put our trust upon?
Matthew 11:28-30
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
The Lord beseeches us trust Him with our burdens, and take
His light burden. Proverbs 3:8, as we have seen, emphasizes the need to shift our trust in the
Lord, for He will strengthen us.
Psalms 37:3-6
Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land, and
feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give
you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the
light, and your justice as the noonday.
Before our desires have been met, we need to trust in the
Lord. We need to begin with the Lord. When we continue trusting in the Lord, He
will satisfy and fill the hungry. Is our hunger due to the fact that we have not
trusted in the Lord?
The Lord meets and grants the secret petitions of our hearts.
Ephesians 3:20
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask
or think, according to the power that works in us.
When we were miserable, it wasn’t glorifying God, but when
we trust and stand in boldness and declare His works, His light shall make us
brighter and glorious hence affecting the world around us since sinners do not
read the Bible, they read the Christians.
As for us who trust in the Lord, we shall never be put to shame.
Psalm 20:7-8
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will
remember the name of the LORD our God. They have bowed down and fallen; But we
have risen and stand upright.
What happens when we trust in the Lord?
- He sends the Fourth Man.
Daniel 3:24-25
Then
King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to
his counselors, "Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the
fire?" They answered and said to the king, "True, O king."
"Look!" he answered, "I see four men loose, walking in the midst
of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son
of God
If you trust in the Lord even in the midst of adversity, He
will send the fourth Man to rescue
you. God will manifest Himself the
same way He saved Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego (Read Daniel 3:1-30). He will
manifest in your furnace beyond all
human expectations. The Lord’s fire will consume whatever fires come your way.
- He will shut the mouths of your enemies.
Dan 6:1-27 further tells us about the servant of God Daniel
who was thrown into a den of lions. He trusted in the Lord while in the den of
lions. The hungry beasts never harmed him. When you trust in the Lord our God, He will shut the mouths of your enemies. He will shut every mouth of your
destroyers. Your enemies will never harm you whatsoever! Whether it’s a lion of
sickness, poverty, shame…etc, the Lord will shut those mouths for your good! Amen!
- We shall sleep in the midst of the storms and waves.
And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the
boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a
pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, "Teacher, do You not care that
we are perishing? Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea,
"Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
The disciples were afraid of the storm. They had not fully
surrendered their trust unto Jesus who was asleep, with them in the boat,
despite the stormy sea. They thought that He didn’t care but the fact is that when
we learn to hold onto this mighty Fortress, we too, shall be able to sleep even
in the midst of the storms and waves! Whatever manner of storms and waves
blowing our way, we shall not be moved as long as we are trusting and holding
onto our Fortress Jesus Christ. Economic, social and spiritual storms and waves
shall never move all who have their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.
