Matching your Job/Career with your Calling

The Lord is telling us today to come out from amongst them, and be united with Christ (2 Cor. 6:14-18). The Bible tells us in 2 Cor. 5:17 that anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. Being a new creation, we have no business with darkness. The Bible says that two cannot walk together unless they are in agreement (Amos 3:3). Some of us have boyfriends and girlfriends, who are not saved, yet we expect to glorify God in our lives. There is nothing as good as being in a relationship that Christ Himself approves, and this is a relationship that is of the light.

When I got the calling of God over my life, I realised that I couldn’t have a separation of my calling, with salvation. Have we freely given Jesus every area of our lives? There shouldn’t be a separation between our career lives, personal lives and spiritual lives.

Today I am talking to us as people who have Christ’s minds (1 Cor. 2:16). God’s Word is going to align us with His purpose, for our lives.

Colossians 3:23
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men...

If you are in school, or at work, in whatever you do, you have to do for the glory of God. Whatever you do, do it passionately, as unto the Lord. We are His workmanship (Col. 2:10). When we know who we are, then we can well represent Him who called us.

1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Knowing that the Bible tells us that wherever we tread we shall possess (Josh. 1:3), why should we separate our calling with our spiritual lives? There shouldn’t be any difference at all. As we are serving God in all areas of our lives, we should never allow any kind of distractions to take our eyes off God.

Nehemiah 4:6
So we built the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.

Nehemiah chose not to be distracted.

Nehemiah 6:3
So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?”

Those things that make us come down are the ones that bring a divide between our commitment with Christ with our walk with the world. The Spirit of God is more than able to remove those distractions, those things that come to question or shake our commitment with God.

In Genesis 39, we see Joseph was working for Potiphar, and everything was entrusted to him. Potiphar’s wife lusted after Joseph, and was attracted to him sexually. No one would have known of the relationship, if Joseph gave in to the wife’s requests. Why did he not sleep with the woman? He had purposed in his mind, that his job and relationship with God were one, and he would not compromise his standing with God, to get favours at work or whatever the woman had promised him.

Psalm 16:11
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Psalm 5:12
For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.

What more favour or joy do we need? God is more than able to take care of us, and the world needs to know and see this.

Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego refused to bow down to Nebuchadnezzar’s idol. Like them, we need to make a commitment that we will not bow to whatever the world brings us. Like them, since it was all about Christ, we need to be conscious of our relationship with Christ, having been crucified with Him. The decision to walk with Christ and refuse to bow obviously will bring consequences, such as the fiery furnace. There need to be one God in all we do, in all our lives. After their trial, Nebuchadnezzar said that, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego.” Dan. 3:28). In your life, can people say of you, “Blessed be your God?” Can people see God in your life?

Daniel had purposed that his life was sold out to God, in all his life. Are you completely Jesus’?

Proverbs 21:2
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the hearts.

You have the calling of God over your life. What are you doing for the Lord? With Daniel, they tried everything, but couldn’t get him.

Daniel 6:4
So the governors and satraps sought to find some charge against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find no charge or fault, because hewas faithful; nor was there any error or fault found in him.

The only thing they could find about Daniel had to do with his God. Search your heart, see if there is spiritual alignment, or a mismatch or misalignment. Know your God, and let all people know your stand of God. It’s not so much of what you say, but what you do, and how you live your life. What message are you sending out to the world?

Psalm 139:23-24
Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

David was always sensitive to God, and even when he sinned he returned to God with humility (Ps. 51:10-12).

Naaman's slave girl in this 2 Kings 5 didn’t even have a recorded name. She told Naaman of the man of God, and he listened, because of her character, because they saw something in her. She walked in the house of the commander of Syria, as a slave, and spoke to the mistress of the commander, and he listened, and they believed. Her name was not important. She knew who she was. Similarly, people may not know your name, but as long as they know your character, they'll give ear to what you have to say, then you can tell them about your God.

Exodus 33:12
Then Moses said to the Lord, “See, You say to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight.’

God is talking to us all. He knows our names.

Isaiah 43:1
But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel:“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.

You belong to God. When we know our identity in Christ, we know our name. Who are you in Christ?

2 Corinthians 2:15
For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.

If you are the fragrance of Christ, then whether you’re at home, in school, on campus or at work, that fragrance is what will be smelled around.

2 Corinthians 3:3
...clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.

We are the epistles of Christ. When people read us, what do they read? I always say that the Bible does not have time to read the Bible; believers are the Bible they read.

Matthew 5:14-15
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

Philippians 3:20
For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ...

2 Corinthians 5:20
Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.

Philippians 3:3
For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh,

The things we used to do we do no more; where we used to go we go no more. We said goodbye to our past lives, and embraced a new life, our identity being in Christ. Regardless of where we find ourselves, we are Christ’s ambassadors. We have to conduct ourselves as people who know our full credentials, in Christ.  No matter what you’re going through, remember who and Whose you are. When you remember this, then you’ll always behaviours aligning with the One you belong to.

The slave in 2 Kings 5 didn’t cling to her past. Don’t hold on to your past (Isaiah 43:18-19). Cremate your past; don’t embalm it. When God is taking us somewhere, some of us, since we have embalmed it, we take our pasts up again. No matter where you have been or what you have done, there is an anointing awaiting you when you turn around and repent, an anointing that you will use to comfort and help others too to fulfill their purpose (2 Cor. 1:3-4). There is a purpose for where you are.

Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

It does not matter where you’ve been or what you’ve done. There is a new beginning for you. He can put a new spirit and heart in you, when you accept Him, and help you match your school/work/personal/family life and so on, with His calling. Today I declare and decree that God’s Word is not returning to Him void, but is accomplishing His purpose in your life. There is a new beginning for you, and God is willing and ready to take us where He wants you to be. He will help us go and be where He wants us to be.

Amen.
