What He Wants

Esther 2:13-15
Thus prepared, each young woman went to the king, and she was given whatever she desired to take with her from the women's quarters to the king's palace. 14 In the evening she went, and int he morming she returned to the second house of the women, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king's eunuch who kept the concubines. She would not go in to the king again unless the king delighted in her and called for her by name.

15 Now when the turn came for Esther the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her as his daughter, to go in to the king, she requested nothing but what Hegai the king's eunuch, the custodian of the women, advised. And Esther obtained favor in the sight of all who saw her.

John 4:16-20
Then Jesus said to her, "Go, call your husband, and come here." 17 The woman answered and said, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You have well said, 'I have no husband,' 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you have now is not your husband; in that you spoke truly."

19 The woman said to Him, "Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshipped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.

We all struggle and strive to achieve something out of life. However, there are people who do not know what they want. God created us for a purpose, and when we identify it our lives will turn around. It is dangerous not to know what you want in life.

When you do not know what you want, you will always encounter conflict. People who do not know what they want always conflict with others who are lost like them. Before you undertake anything, ask yourself what you are getting into, and always ask yourself what you want.

Esther went to Hegai, who knew what the king wanted, not what she herself wanted. As we have seen in the verses above in the book of Esther, the other virgin women all got what they wanted before going to see the king. I am sure others adorned themselves with short dresses to catch the eye of the king, others with see-through dresses, others with good perfumes, others with whatever they felt they wanted to retain in case they did not make it to be queen. Esther stood out as she did not desire anything, but what the king wanted. This is why she allowed Hegai, who knew what the king wanted, to choose for her what to wear.

It is not what you want, it is what HE wants. Today in selfishness many people focus so much on earthly things, and miss out on what God wants.

The Samaritan woman did not know what she wanted, and that is why she still thirsted, despite having 6 men. I am sure all the men were different and had different qualities, and each time before she got one she convinced herself that this would be the one who would satisfy her thirst. 5 times she changed men, hoping the next one would satisfy, showing us that clearly she did not know what she wanted. The problem was not with the men, but with her. She knew this when Jesus told her, when she found out that her problem would not be solved by men, but by the one Man, Jesus Christ, when she drank the living waters.

God created us and linked us up with His systems, to always think about what God really wants. Deep inside us we have a desire to do what He wants, but the enemy has interfered with our systems, to no longer want what God wants.

We should always strive to  discern Gods will, and what He desires. Seek first the kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33). Instead of seeking God's kingdom first, men seek first their own kingdoms. When you do God's will, you will always have joy. Jesus said that His food was to do the will of God, and we should imitate Him.

Whenever you want God to do something for you, desire to do it to someone else and bless them, and the healing, blessing etc. will flow through you to someone else, ministering to you too.

There is more to what God wants from you, pursue it. If we have zeal and passion to pursue worldly careers, we should have zeal and passion for the things of God. Discern your calling.

We should discern the will of God even in prayer. When you know God's will, pursue it with all your heart.

How much time do you give your God? What drives you, what you want or what He wants? May you be driven by what your Father and Creator wants.

It's not a question of what you want, but what He wants.

Amen.
