Living in God's Time (God Will Never Be Late)
Habakkuk 2:3
“For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, it will not tarry”
This was God’s answer to Prophet Habakkuk after asking God when He was going to act. The righteous people of God were under the oppression of the Babylonians. They were terribly suffering and what was worse was that they were righteous people under the oppression of the unrighteous.
Habakkuk is speaking with a sense of urgency because the situation had gotten to its worst point; its boiling point. However, God responds with a calm voice and says that at the right time, He will come through for them. Honestly, it is easy for the human mind to question what God is speaking here, which is the better time than now? People are suffering here, God; can’t you see the mess?
This is similar to many of our situations today; many of us have asked God the same question Habakkuk asked. God can’t you see what I am going through? Can’t you see how this boss is taking forever to promote me yet I am righteous? Can’t you see that I have been walking for a long time yet my drunkard neighbour is already driving? Can’t you see that my business is not picking up yet I have been tithing and giving offerings, while my friend who never goes to Church is already expanding their business? When are you going to move for me?
God, being the same yesterday, today and tomorrow is telling us the same thing He told Habakkuk in Chapter 2 verse 3.
There are two elements that we ought to be aware of in this scenario that hinder most believers from living in God’s time. First, that God is perceived to be moving slower than He should and second, that other ‘undeserving’ people are doing better than the ‘deserving’. The first one is rooted in lack of trust in God and the second one is rooted in pride. In other words, we can say that lack of trust in God and pride are some of the key obstacles to believers living in God’s time. The antidotes for these two are simple, God’s answer that is found in His word... Let our hearts be encouraged by the fact that God is faithful to His word and let us focus on His promises to us, and not our circumstances. It doesn’t matter what these circumstances are, God’s word is far way superior.
2 Corinthians 1:20
For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.
Hebrews 11:13
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
Hebrews 10:38
Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.”
Every time you feel like it is taking a long time, remember Abraham, the time between when He was promised Isaac and when he actually was born; remember Joseph who had a vision of his brothers bowing before him, and the next thing he finds himself in slavery; remember David who was anointed as King, but spends several years running away and hiding in caves. All these great people lived in God’s timing and God’s promises over their lives did not tarry.
God will never change, therefore we can be sure that He will do what He did.
Blessings.
