What Do You Have?

Exodus 4:2
And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, a rod.

In Exodus chapter 3, God called Moses with an intention to send him to Egypt to go and deliver the Israelites from slavery. In vs. 11 Moses asked God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh...?” In other words, he was saying "I can’t go." He continued to give God reasons why he thought he could not do it.

In your walk of faith, have you ever found yourself saying "I can’t God, no it’s so hard", or "Send someone else," or "I don’t have what it takes?"

Do you know you might be having something and you do not know you have it? Do you know you might be having the exact thing you say you are in need of? God had to physically manifest the power Moses had in him through what he was holding. Note: this had nothing to do with the rod, It was all about Who was with Moses - God.

When you have God, you have all you need for the task before you. It is very easy to say "I don’t have anything," or "I can’t make it," or "I don’t know anyone," but when you have God, you have all you need.

2 Peter 1:3
...as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue...

God has in his wisdom provided for all that we need for this life, to enable us to accomplish the task He has placed before us. For example when God created the earth, He provided everything for its existence; the light, the water, the air and so on. The earth is complete to provide for all within it.

In the same way, God has provided an answer or a lead to every situation. The question is, "Do you know what you have?"

2 Kings 4:1-2
A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.”So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”

This is the story of the widow who cried to Elisha when she was about to be sold as a slave, together with her sons, because of a big debt left behind by her husband. Elisha asked her, "What do you have in the house?" Her immediate response, like most of us, was "I have nothing."

Most of the time that is our first reaction, a reaction of hopelessness and lack. We fail to see the potential in us. We fail to see what God has already provided. On second thought, she said, only "a jar of oil." Even if it is little, it is important; even if it is little, that is what you have and what God can use, if you allow Him. The little oil was multiplied by God miraculously and was sold for a lot of money and the woman was able to pay her debts and use the rest of the money. So, what do you have? In the same in chapter vs 42, a man from Baal Shalisha had 20 loaves of bread and he took to Elisha as first fruit, and Elisha told him to give it to the people to eat. The men were a hundred in number, and this was very little food for them, but God said, “Give it to the people, that they may eat; ...‘They shall eat and have some left over.’” 2 Kings 4:43. That is exactly what happened.

In Matthew 14:25-21, particularly vs. 17, the disciples said, We have here only five loaves and two fish.” Jesus used these to feed more than 5,000 people, and there were left-overs.

Lessons
  1. There is no one who has nothing. What do you have? A gift, a talent, an idea, an invention, a ministry? What you have will open doors to your destiny. Never say I don’t have anything. "A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men." Prov. 18:16.
  2. The size doesn’t matter. Don’t despise the 2 small fish and the few loaves of bread; when they are blessed, they can feed thousands. In Luke 21:1 the widows mite, though little, touched Jesus’ heart and couldn’t be compared to the much which was given by the rest. Start with what you have.
  3. Use it unto the Lord. Whatever gift, talent, special ability, ministry, innovation, or idea you may have, use it to serve the Lord. If it is used for self, fame, showing off, it will be vanity. Use it to glorify God and to serve people. "And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men..." Col. 3:23.

The question remains, what do you have?

Blessings.
