Character

-->
 2 Peter 1:5 – 11
5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge
6 self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;
11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Character development

Therefore it is clear that character development requires the following things:
  • Diligence
  • Faith
  • Virtue
  • Knowledge
  • Self-Control
  • Perseverance
  • Godliness
  • Brotherly Kindness
  • Love

Character equals Maturity

While the gifts of the spirit are give freely, character development comes only with time, at great personal effort.

God’s purpose for man

Genesis 1:26
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;.

2 Timothy 3:17
that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work

If you create an act, you create a habit. If you create a habit, you create a character. If you create a character, you create a destiny. ~ Adre Maurois

If I take care of my character, my reputation will take care of itself. ~ D. L. Moody

  • Character is the inner life of man. It reflects either the traits of the sinful nature (being influenced by the world ) or the traits of the divine nature( being influenced by the word of God)
  • Character is displayed in the action of an individual under pressure.
  • Character is the sum total of all the negative and positive qualities in a person’s life exemplified by one’s thought, values, motivations, attitudes, feelings and actions. ~ Frank Damazio

Your gift must balance

Proverbs 11:1
A false balance is abomination to the LORD; but a just weight is his delight.

God is more concerned with our character than our giftedness. What you do not give God to destroy (character) will be the same thing that destroys you. Never allow you gift take you where your character cannot keep you.
