It All Belongs to God
Job 1:21-22
And
he said: "Naked I came from my mother's womb, And naked shall I return
there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; Blessed be the name of the
LORD." In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.
Life is full
of events and occurrences. Every experience, whether good or bad, is an
educational tool which we are expected to learn from and use it to change, for our
own good. How we receive the experiences determines our attitude and willingness regarding transformation.
We learn
this from the story of Job. He went through a string of very tough challenges,
yet his unique response to this is profound. He lost so much through the trials,
yet in his predicament, he never lost his faith in God. His total and
deliberate trust and confidence in God is reflected in his response to the
spiritual warfare he underwent, as stated in the quoted scripture verses.
- Life - Job’s health was utterly attacked but he never yielded to his wife and friends' calls against God. He knew that the life he had was entirely God’s gift and therefore God had the final say regarding him, as long as he continued to trust Him and lived in holiness.
- Family – Job lost his family, even after making sure that he sacrificed for their holiness. At this, he never accused God or blamed everything. He treated what God had given him responsibly and therefore the loss was by the will of God.
- Wealth – after losing his wealth, he became so poor and miserable yet Job was not distracted from his focus and faith on God. He attributed his wealth and prosperity as God’s gift, and not as a result of his own effort.
We too can
glean from the life of Job in the fact that we should not prideful with what we
have, but rather be good stewards of every resource that God has given us. We have a
reason to appreciate and be grateful unto God for every season, knowing that He
has discretion over every creation on earth, and it is our duty to embrace
righteousness and holiness.
Blessings.
