Alone with God
When we are alone, maybe in the
house, in the workplace, walking alone, no friends; many occurrences in your
life happens.
·
People can judge you harshly since they assume
you are a snob or weird.
·
You can feel a sense of depression or low moods
and you can’t share with someone
·
You engage in deep thought and meditation
Brethren, sometimes in our lives, God separates us from the world and
makes us to be alone so that we can fellowship with Him and get deeper into a
relationship with Him.
Let’s look at a few verses to justify this sermon.
Genesis 32:24-31 New King
James Version (NKJV)
24 Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled
with him until the [a]breaking of day. 25 Now when He saw that He
did not prevail against him, He [b]touched the socket of his hip;
and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with
him. 26 And He
said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.”
But he said, “I will not
let You go unless You bless me!”
27 So He said to him, “What is your name?”
He said, “Jacob.”
28 And He said, “Your name shall no longer be
called Jacob, but [c]Israel; for you
have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
29 Then Jacob asked, saying, “Tell me Your name, I pray.”
And He said, “Why is it that you ask about My name?” And
He blessed him there.
30 So Jacob called the name of the place [d]Peniel: “For I have seen
God face to face, and my life is preserved.” 31 Just as he crossed over [e]Penuel the sun rose on him, and
he limped on his hip.
Jacob was separated from his
usual environment where he met with his Maker and that is where the transition
from Jacob to Israel. When God separates you from the usual environment, get
ready for a new name, a new beginning and blessings to come your way.
Let’s look at another legend in
the Bible, Moses. Enquire more from the Lord, just as Moses enquired of the Lord in the Burning Bush.
Moses at the Burning Bush
3 Now Moses was tending the flock
of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the
flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of
God. 2 And the Angel of
the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush.
So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. 3 Then
Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush
does not burn.”
4 So when the Lord saw that he
turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and
said, “Moses, Moses!”
And he said, “Here I am.”
5 Then He said, “Do not draw near this
place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you
stand is holy
ground.” 6 Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father—the
God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his
face, for he was afraid to look upon God.
Brethren, when the Lord separates you and makes you walk a journey
alone, enquire from Him the purpose He intends for you and open yourself to
accept His will be done.
Another illustration is Elijah, read the verse below:
1 Kings 19:3-6 New King
James Version (NKJV)
3 And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba,
which belongs to
Judah, and left his servant there.
4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the
wilderness, and came and sat down under a [a]broom tree. And he prayed
that he might die, and said, “It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for
I am no better than
my fathers!”
5 Then as he lay and slept under a broom tree,
suddenly an [b]angel touched him, and said to
him, “Arise and eat.” 6 Then
he looked, and there by his head was a
cake baked on [c]coals, and a jar of water. So he
ate and drank, and lay down again.
Elijah segregated himself from his servant and journeyed to the
wilderness to speak to the Father concerning his purpose. God answered through
an angel who provided bread and water for him as a sign of continuing his
journey(purpose).
Brethren, when we are weary and heavy laden, do not seek counsel from
men (since Elijah left his servant and sought God), but rather seek God’s will
when you separate yourself from the situation you
are in and seek God. Believer’s God is ready to answer you when you
seek Him first.
Jesus also sought God in the garden of Gethsemane. Let’s read the
scripture below:
Matthew 26:36-46 New King
James Version (NKJV)
The Prayer in the Garden
36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called
Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over
there.” 37 And He took with Him Peter and the
two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. 38 Then
He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay
here and watch with Me.”
39 He went a little farther and fell on His
face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let
this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”
40 Then He came to the disciples and found them
sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one
hour? 41 Watch and pray, lest you enter into
temptation. The spirit indeed is willing,
but the flesh is weak.”
42 Again, a second time, He went away and
prayed, saying, “O My Father,[a]if this cup cannot pass away
from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.” 43 And
He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy.
44 So He left them, went away again, and prayed
the third time, saying the same words. 45 Then He
came to His disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour [b]is at hand, and the Son of Man
is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise,
let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.”
Jesus Christ sought His Father (God) alone while the disciples were
sleeping and as He was praying, He was Strengthened in the Spirit before the
hour of betrayal to the hand of sinners came.
Believers, when you are alone in your environment, purpose to make it
an environment of being alone with God and not a loneliness environment.
Understand that being lonely and allowing loneliness without God to dominate
you can make the devil attack you with depressing thoughts. Purpose to make it
an environment of being alone with God.
Be Blessed.
