God Sees
“‘...for I have seen all that Laban is doing to you. I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed the pillar and where you made a vow to Me. Now arise, get out of this land, and return to the land of your family.’” Genesis 31:12-13 NKJV
Jacob had been cheated by Laban concerning his wife, being made to work 7 more years for the wife he really wanted. After completing his years he continued to work for Laban selflessly, and he said he worked with all his might (Gen. 31:6). God was with him, and even Laban, who’d gotten very rich since Jacob joined him, said that he had learned by experience that God has blessed him because of Jacob (Gen. 30:27). All this while Jacob didn't have much in terms of possessions that he could call his own, despite having two wives and ten children. When he asked to leave to make a living elsewhere convinced that his time there was up Laban begged him to stay and promised him wages, whatever he named. They agreed upon the wages but Laban kept changing them 10 times to favour himself. All this while Jacob kept persevering and working with all his might. All this while God saw and kept quiet, yet Jacob says he knew God was with him (Gen. 31:5). Finally God appeared to Jacob and told him to leave.
Many a times as we serve God situations won't favour us and we’ll ask ourselves where God is as we seem stuck as others are progressing. We’ll be cheated, persecuted, mistreated, hated and so on. All the while the question remains, “God, why aren't you doing something? Where are you in all this?” It takes faith in God’s promises to keep serving with all our mights. The last recorded word God spoke to Jacob before our opening text was years before when He promised him (on his way to Laban’s) that He would be with him and keep him, not leave him until He’d accomplished His word to him (Gen. 28:13-15), and I’m convinced this word is what Jacob was holding on to to know that even though he had been cheated concerning his wife and made to work 7 more years, mistreated, cheated out of his wages 10 times and God wasn't speaking or changing the situation He was still with him. When God appeared to him at the end He reminded him of the word and promise years before at Bethel, and told him all along He was seeing all that was happening to him.
Do you feel like you're stuck in life and are daily praying wondering where God is, if He cares and why He isn't changing your situation despite you having have done all the right things you know to do? God wants you to know that He sees all you are going through, that He cares more than you know (1 Pet. 5:7), and that yes He may not be visibly busy changing your situation but you can be sure He is busy using the situation to change you (Phil. 2:12-13). You can be sure He is with you and He sees. Hold on to His promises and keep doing what you know you're supposed to be doing faithfully, leaving the unknown to Him. That is faith. Since you know He sees, don't move until He speaks, if at all you believe He led you there. He is with you and will keep you and fulfill all His promises to you.
Grace and peace to you!
