Way Higher
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9 NKJV
We are all of different school of thoughts and have our own ways of seeing and doing things. Not many people will handle the same situation in the exact same way; some are wiser, quicker, slower, neater, more methodical etc. It’s a big mistake to expect people see and do things like us. It’s a bigger mistake to think God is of the same school of thought as we are and expect Him to see and do things like us. God knows this temptation will always come and gave us a clarification that His thoughts and ways are not ours, as a matter of fact they are so far apart that we can't calculate exactly how far. One may see this as an obvious truth but it's not, and this is revealed by the way we live.
How many times have we told God how we want Him to work and even the timeline, and when He doesn't we start doubting His faithfulness? How many times do we draw near to Him to hear how He wants things done, how He even wants us to pray and what to pray for (Eccl. 5:1-2, Rom. 8:26-27)? If the best and most experienced person in your industry or career came to work with you and asked to help you learn and grow in your career as he/she worked besides you constantly, how often would you check out their way of doing things and learn from them? I bet it's constantly. How many times would you instruct them on how to do things? I bet it's rarely, even when their way of doing things seems ridiculous. All this is because you're convinced they're better than you.
What if we all as believers were truly convinced that God's thoughts and ways are way higher than ours? I imagine that we’d run everything by Him, ask questions constantly on how to do things (pride and self-confidence is one of the reasons people don't pray and seek help from God - Job 21:7,13-15), follow His instructions keenly and cautiously (one of the reasons we disobey is because we feel we know better), spend more time in His Word to be acquainted with His thoughts and ways and renew our minds to think like Him (Rom. 12:1-2) and so on.
Reflection:
How does God see your current situation? How would He do things? If you think you’re at stuck in life or are “behind schedule” judging from what you see around you, do you think that's the way God sees your situation? How would your life look like if you lived off the truth that God's ways and thoughts are way way higher than yours? What if we all let go of our faulty lenses through which we see life (pride, hurt, bitterness, anxiety and worry, unbelief, fear, anger etc), and put on God's lens through which we’ll see our situations and life (through the renewing of our minds - Rom. 12:1-2)? God is the Master Planner and Artist (check around you as the earth is His painting canvas), and if He did what He did with the earth in 6 days, can you imagine what He can do with your life in the years you have to live?
Grace and peace to you!
