The Heart Matters

Image
Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. We live from the heart, according to the above text. As much as we use our minds to make decisions and so on, the mind is always influenced by the heart. The heart is the core of every human being. Most of the things we do and say are determined by the heart, and what’s in it. By heart I am not talking about the flesh organ that pumps blood in our bodies, rather the core of every human being, the part of you that contains your affections, belief system, passions, perspectives, and so on. When you were conceived , I believe there was nothing engraved on your heart, as far as affections, belief systems, passions, perspectives etc. are concerned. By and by, with the mind as the processing unit/plant of the heart, you started developing these, and engraving them in and on your heart. Whatever goes into the heart has to go through the mind first. Whatever is in the heart eventually influen

Worship

Image
When I was growing up, I thought that worship was a slow song, and singing along to such. I also thought that going to town and giving to beggars and such is worship. Today, I understand that all these things are acts of worship. Some people go to church and after singing say that the worship didn't please them, or it wasn't that good and so on. Worship wasn't for us in the first place, it was and is always for God. Worship is a spiritual act, and since God is Spirit, for us to worship God as we ought to then we ought to be in the spirit. Psalm 96:9 Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth. John 4:21-25 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in sp

Necessity of Salvation (Love)

Jo hn 3:5-8 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6  That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7  Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8  The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (Emphasis added) Titus 3:1-5 Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, 2  to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. 3  For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. 4  But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5  not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according

Wholly After God

For thus says the LORD, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: "I am the LORD, and there is no other. 19 I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth; I did not say to the seed of Jacob, 'Seek Me in vain'; I, the LORD, speak righteousness, I declare things that are right…" Isaiah 45:18-19 Since the times of old, we see God requiring His people to seek Him diligently. Since He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb. 13:8), He still wants us to seek Him today. The amazing thing with God is that He always attached a promise/reward to seeking Him, and in our opening text we see Him reminding the children of Israel that He has never told them to seek Him in vain. This is the great deception of the devil and the world, that seeking God is usually in vain. This is why to many, seeking God is not a priority. Why do people spend hundre

Humility, Pt. 2

Image
This message is a continuation of the message we started, on Humility . After telling us how to walk in humility (being lowly in mind, esteeming others better than ourselves and looking uot also for the interests of others - Phil. 2:3-4), Paul then goes ahead and talks about our Role Model and Example in humility, over the next verses. Philippians 2:5-11 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,  6  who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,  7   but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant,  and  coming in the likeness of men.  8  And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to  the point of  death, even the death of the cross.  9  Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,  10  that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,  11  and  that  every to
